چکیده

In this paper an algebraic approach to formal object-oriented design specification is presented where the static and functional part of a software system is described by classical algebraic specification whereas the dynamic behavior is modeled by a transition relation. The approach is inspired by Astesiano’s SMoLCS formalism and is based on Meseguer’s rewriting logic; but it has two additional features, which are motivated by pragmatic objectoriented software development techniques: it supports the construction of subsystems, and the flow of messages can be controlled by use of a simple but powerful concurrent language. Liveness and safety properties of design specifications are formulated with the help of structured message expressions; methods for proving such properties are shortly discussed. As underlying specification language Broy’s SPECTRUM is extended by features for concurrent object-oriented specification. An example of a component for interactive sorting is given and liveness and safety properties of the component are proven.

Linking Event-B and Concurrent Object-Oriented Programs

The Event-B method is a formal approach to modelling systems, using refinement. Initial specification is done at a high level of abstraction; detail is added in refinement steps as the development proceeds toward implementation. In software systems that use concurrent processing it is necessary to provide details of concurrent features before implementation. Our contribution is to show how Even...

Using the COOPN / 2 Formal Method for Groupware Systems Engineering #

A BSTRACT . COOPN/2 (Concurrent Object Oriented Petri Nets) is an object-oriented specification formalism based on Petri Nets and algebraic specifications. It is fully adapted to the specification of complex concurrent systems because it inherits the advantages of algebraic specifications for the specification of abstract data types, from Petri nets to describe partially ordered events and from...

Parallel Object-Oriented Specification Language

The Parallel Object-Oriented Specification Language (POOSL) is an expressive modelling language for hardware/software systems [10]. It was originally defined in [7] as an object-oriented extension of process algebra CCS [6], supporting (conditional) synchronous message passing between (hierarchically structured) asynchronous concurrent processes. Meanwhile, POOSL has been extended with real-tim...

Producing Network Applications Using Object-Oriented Petri Nets

The programming language Java has become and extremely popular language; many people are writing concurrent systems using Java. The design and implementation of concurrent Java programs is significantly more complex than sequential programs and the use formal method is seen as extremely beneficial for the design and implementation of such systems. The Petri net formalism [Petri 1962] can be use...

Term Graph Rewriting as a Specification and Implementation Framework for Concurrent Object-Oriented Programming Languages

The usefulness of the generalised computational model of Term Graph Rewriting Systems (TGRS) for designing and implementing concurrent object-oriented languages, and also for specifying and reasoning about the interaction between concurrency and object-orientation (such as concurrent synchronisation of methods or interference problems between concurrency and inheritance), is examined in this pa...
